Data Recovery Essential Say 87 per cent of Businesses
Businesses lose an average of 545 man-hours every year due to IT problems, and yet 56 per cent of North American businesses have no comprehensive IT disaster recovery policy, according to a recent survey.
The story is similar in Europe, with 30 per cent of businesses failing to put into place a full IT disaster policy in place, and yet 87 per cent of businesses surveyed said that data recovery would be essential to avoid damage to their business. Data recovery professionals can minimise the impact of IT failures on businesses by ensuring that all data is rapidly restored and storage systems are working at full capacity as quickly as possible after a technical hitch.
Hard disk RAID arrays, which use a number of storage drives arranged to ensure files are still available in the event of a disk failure, are an increasingly popular option for businesses. Any faulty drives can be swapped out, and RAID recovery experts can restore access to data quickly and easily.
The survey, commissioned by IT specialist CA Technologies, involved questioning 2,000 organisations across the US and Europe and also found that IT down-time has a negative effect on staff morale, customer loyalty and company reputation. 44 per cent of the respondents said that they thought IT down-time had a negative effect on staff morale and 35 per cent said that customer loyalty could be hit by It outages.
As well as the 87 per cent of organisations saying that losing data during an IT crisis would be "damaging" to their business, 23 per cent went further and said it would prove "disastrous."
