Data Recovery Process
Your hard disk is unpacked, booked into our data recovery tracking system and then undergoes a thorough inspection and recovery routine.
Your damaged hard drive would be put through the following checks:
Visual and electrical checks:
- Visual inspection under microscope for physical damage.
- Electrical inspection: power, motor, servo circuits and Interfaces.
Electronics, firmware and microcode checks:
- Electronic functionality of the hard drive is checked.
Faulty electronic components are repaired usually by component substitution. The hard disk is then re-programmed and the firmware is upgraded and re-calibrated.

Read/Write and media checks:
- Magnetic media inspection.
- Read/Write head operation checks.
- Calibration and alignment checks.
Any faulty parts are sourced from stock or external supply and replaced. The hard disk drive head assembly is re-aligned, contamination removed and cleaned and is then re-assembled.
Occasionally it is necessary to re-locate the magnetic storage platters to another drive and motor assembly and rebuild the hard disk drive from scratch.
Customer Testimonials:
“The customer service guys were very helpful and extremely professional, they talked me through the data recovery process, and gave me practical advice on hard disk drives.”
Chris Holly, Bristol
Data Extraction:
Once operational functionality
has been restored any lost data will be accessible. The data
stored on the magnetic platters can be extracted or read via
the hard disk drive interface using proprietary programs.
The data stream is checked for parity errors and any bad sectors will have CRC codes repaired. The data and file lists will then be securely stored on our servers.
Returning your Data to you:
Data is manually checked by our data recovery technicians. Once the recovery has been established we will send a full file list, where appropriate, for the customer to validate. Once validated we will transfer your data to an external hard drive as standard..
Datlabs will retain your original disk drive for 10 days just in case there is a problem with the data we returned to you. For your own security and peace of mind all copies of any data stored on the hard disk are securely erased. Read More...
